South Korea
Since establishing diplomatic ties between the USSR and the Republic of Korea in 1990, Russian and South Korean relations have quickly developed, encompassing nearly all areas of cooperation. Currently, a wide-ranging international treaty framework of bilateral relations has been established at the intergovernmental level; specifically, more than 50 agreements have been signed involving investment guarantees, avoidance of double taxation, military technical cooperation (using nuclear energy for domestic purposes), fishing, cultural exchanges, etc.
As of today, South Korea has invested mainly in the industrial and heating energy sector of Russia's economy. In addtion, the two countries are actively involved in producing natural resources, as well as manufacturing cars and building ships. According to Russia's Trade Mission to Seoul, the country's foreign trade turnover with the Republic of Korea in the first half of 2013 was USD 11.3 billion, with Russia's exports increasing by 8.2% year-on-year to USD 5.7 billion and imports from South Korea growing by 1.8% year-on-year to USD 5.6 billion.
