Special operation with intellectual property: piracy, court tranquillity and new opportunities

Attorney, Partner, Head of Litigation and International Arbitration at ART DE LEX Artur Zurabian, notes that for this reason it may be more difficult to maintain exclusive rights abroad.

Among other problems, Zurabyan singles out the fact that IT giants has started to violate rights of many companies, first of all mass media. Such violations include blocking YouTube channels and deletion of applications from stores. For example, after announcement of partial mobilization in Russia 21 September, the VK application disappeared from AppStore (it was subsequently returned). Zurabian notes that such infringements of Russian entities’ rights are often not related to sanctions in relation of some specific persons. That is, these are stand-alone sanctions imposed by IT giants.
