Dmitry Magonya, the managing partner of ART DE LEX, presented a report at the roundtable titled “The lawyer on social networks and the blogosphere: Trends, problems, recommendations"

On 14 April 2015, the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation hosted a roundtable discussion devoted to the informational Internet environment. 

Those present discussed the following topics: the use of social networks as an information source; communication opportunities of social networks for bringing together specialists with similar professional interests; the possibilities for social networking and professional activities; the ethical aspects of submitting information to blogs and social networks; the possible consequences of asocial and unethical behavior in social networks on the part of representatives of professional corporations; and the development of recommendations regarding corporate behavior on social networks and the blogosphere.

Dmitry Magonya, the managing partner of ART DE LEX, reported on “The ethical restrictions on the behavior of lawyers on the Internet: The Russian and foreign experience.” His presentation analyzed the following questions:

  • Social networks for lawyers: The means of personal and professional communications or the means to inform society about the profession?;
  • Personal and professional behavior on social networks: The features of a virtual format;
  • Approaches to regulating behavior on the Internet: Self-checking, corporate advice, and corporate requirements.

Several individuals participated in the roundtable: Yury Pilipenko, the president of the FPA of the Russian Federation; Henry Reznik, the vice-president of the FPA; Vasily Rudomino, a member of the council of the FPA and a member of the Legal Practice Division Council of the International Bar Association (IBA); FPA experts; heads of information departments; and members of the media.
