Marat Samarsky | comments for the Vedomosti: The Polish PGNiG filed a counterclaim against Gazprom for price reduction

The Polish company PGNiG filed a counterclaim against Gazprom after the Russian company in mid-January claimed an increase in gas prices, as follows from the PGNiG release of 11 February. In its request filed to the Arbitration Institute of the Stokholm Chamber of Commerce, the Polish gas monopolist not only insisted on rejecting the Gazprom claims as “unacceptable de jure or unsubstantiated de facto”, but also emphasized the necessity of reducing the price for the Russian gas. We are prepared to establish our case at the Arbitration Institute of the Stokholm Chamber of Commerce”, states the PGNiG release.

According to Attorney of International Economic Compliance of ART DE LEX Marat Samarsky, for Gazprom another litigation with PGNiG is just one more chance to demonstrate to the global energy market the correctness of its approaches to pricing, since they will be clearly confirmed not by politicians’ statements or by company executives, but “holistically studied by competent professionals and fixed in the form of an arbitration award”.
