Twitch accused of abusing its dominant position in Russia

Twitch, American streaming service owned by Amazon, causes economic damage to bloggers at large, preventing them from transferring money to accounts in Russian banks and may block “any user”, being governed by the legislation of «any state», alleges the Regional Public Centre of Internet Technologies (ROTSIT) in its complaint to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). Previously, after a complaint of this organisation against Google, the FAS found the company guilty of abusing the dominant position of YouTube in the video hosting market.

In February 2022, the FAS declared Google to be a violator of the antitrust legislation for the reason of abusing its dominant position in the video hosting market. The proceedings were also initiated by the ROTSIT, which late in 2020 filed a lawsuit to the FAS. Then the organization alleged that YouTube could block accounts «not bearing any responsibility therefor». According to the FAS order, Google has to modify the user agreement, so that blockings of YouTube channels should not be groundless, said then ART DE LEX Managing Partner Dmitry Magonya.
