FAS found Google guilty of violation the antitrust legislation

FAS of Russia declared Google to be a violator of the antitrust legislation. In the opinion of the authority, the company abused its domination position in the video hosting market, blocking Russian YouTube channels and their content.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia declared the YouTube owner - Google - to be a violator of the antitrust legislation for abusing its domination position in the video hosting market. This follows from the report of the Regional Public Centre of Internet Technologies (ROTSIT) who initiated the case (received by Forbes).

Google will receive an instruction from FAS and will have to change the user agreement so that blockings of YouTube channels should not be groundless, told Forbes Managing Partner of ART DE LEX law form Dmitry Magonya. According to him, now YouTube blocks accounts on the grounds of different laws and imposing different requirements to their owners. «This is the world’s first case in the social video hosting market considered by an antimonopoly regulator. I don’t rule out that this FAS decision may entail consequences abroad and new similar decisions by other regulators,» he believes.
