The East Economic Forum will take place on 3-5 September 2015

The East Economic Forum, which the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, established on 19 May 2015, through decree No. 250, On the East Economic Forum, will take place from 3 to 5 September 2015. The forum promises to be one of the most remarkable political and economic events of the year. According to Vladimir Putin, the main goal of the Eastern Economic Forum is to ensure the recovery of the Russian Far East and to establish there an attractive climate for living and doing business as well as for creating points of growth that will become the engines of future development. The Russian prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, sharing the view of the president of the Russian Federation, said that the East Economic Forum will establish a business environment and infrastructure in the Russian Far East that will compete for investments and labor resources on a global scale.

On 15 July 2015, the official site of the forum, including the official program, appeared on the Internet. The forum will have three plenary sessions devoted to the development of the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD). In addition to the plenary sessions, the forum will have more than 20 sessions divided into three main groups:

1) “The Strength of the Russian Far East” will feature sessions devoted to several areas of development: the energy sector, in particular, oil, gas, and energy; tourism; transportation infrastructure; cities of the FEFD; agriculture; and timber. In addition, this section includes sessions dedicated to the extraction and processing of mineral resources as well as modern production and technology.

2) “The New Economic Policy in the Far East” will focus on public and financial support for investment projects, key features of businesses in the FEFD involved with creating the free port of Vladivostok, increased support for exports, and broad access to international markets;

3) “The Future of the Asia-Pacific Region” will concentrate on identifying new opportunities for the development of the Asia-Pacific Gateway Project, pairing the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Silk Road economic belt, and promoting the territories of priority development, the capital markets of Asian countries in the Far East, as well as the diamond business in these regions.

In addition these and other events, the forum scheduled direct dialogues between the representatives of Russia and those of other countries: Japan, South Korea, China, and the Association of South-East Asia.

About 3.5 thousand people from different countries received invitations to participate in the East Economic Forum. According to the forum’s organizing committee, as of 15 July 2015, more than 500 businessmen and 13 business associations have registered for the Eastern Economic Forum. They include individuals from seven countries: the UK, Singapore, Japan, China, South Korea, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and India.
