The Supreme Court stated the necessity of more careful examination of the circumstances of a dispute on offset of liabilities

Uss Junior was taken into custody 17 October 2022 at Milan airport upon a USA request. He was planning to fly to Turkey. Uss, together with four more Russian citizens and two oil traders from Venezuela are accused of circumventing sanctions, illegal receipt of military technologies of the USA and Venezuelan oil, and of money laundering.

25 October, during a session of the Milan Court of Appeal Uss pleaded not guilty. According to him, he had not been to the USA since the age of 14.

The American Ministry of Justice accuses Artyom Uss and six other persons of “having organized a complicated scheme of illegal receipt of American military technologies and Venezuelan oil through multiple transactions with bogus companies and cryptocurrency”. In the USA, they are facing up to 30 years of imprisonment.

The Italian court approved extradition of Artyom Uss, the son of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Governor, to the USA. Within 15 days, the defence is going to file an appeal to the Cassation Court. The 40-year-old entrepreneur has spent the last months under house arrest.

Nothing is going to happen until the decision of the Cassation Court. If extradition to the USA is confirmed, the proceedings will be conducted in compliance with the rules of the American court, to which this case will be submitted.
